Mattermaps Data Privacy, Confidentiality & PCF Sharing
Mattermaps is designed so organisations remain in control of the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) information they share.
PCF data is not automatically visible to other companies on Mattermaps. Information is exchanged through controlled sharing workflows, allowing you to decide which customers receive your PCF information.

Security Questions
The security of your data is our top priority. PCF certificates are solely owned by the holders of the account.
Access to a PCF record is controlled using the password of the organization owning the account. A holder decides which properties of a PCF are presented when and with which organizations.
The data that’s brought to Mattermaps is not mixed, it's stored separately and confidentially.
Access to your data by unauthorized third parties is therefore excluded.
You alone decide who you want to provide which data to and when – and thus retain full control at all times.
In today's digital landscape, ensuring the security of cloud-based products is paramount. To help you understand how Mattermaps takes care of its users please take a look at our Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) STAR Level 1 Self-Assessment.
The Security Trust Assurance and Risk (STAR) registry encompasses key principles of transparency, rigorous auditing, and cloud security and privacy best practices.
No.
Other companies cannot browse your PCFs simply because they use Mattermaps.
Your PCF information is shared through authorised connections and sharing workflows with the organisations you choose.
Yes.
Mattermaps uses a request-and-share mechanism that allows you to decide which customer receives your PCF information.
When responding to a customer's PCF request, you choose the PCF that you want to share with that customer.
This is the exact question from DIC, so I would deliberately use both versions of the wording:
Can I limit PCF access to specific customers?
and
Can I control which customer can see my PCF data?
That massively increases the chance Helpjuice AI finds the correct chunk.
No.
Customers do not have access to your PCF library or PCF history. They only see PCF information that you decide to share with them.
No.
A customer cannot browse or retrieve PCF information directly from your Mattermaps account.
PCF information has to be provided through the Mattermaps sharing workflow. Mattermaps also supports configured automated proof sharing for selected customers, but the receiving customer still does not gain general access to your account or PCF library.
Yes.
A PCF can be shared with different customers while keeping the exchange controlled between the relevant organisations. Sharing a PCF with one customer does not make that PCF generally visible to other Mattermaps users.
Normally, the PCF becomes part of the customer's overall product calculation.
When the customer's resulting product PCF is shared downstream, the total product emissions are aggregated from multiple components, the customer's own emissions and other factors. Individual component emission values are therefore not exposed as the customer's overall PCF is passed further down the chain.
This is actually a really important reassurance question and I would definitely include it.
Mattermaps includes confidentiality commitments for participants using the platform.
The Mattermaps documentation states that users accept a User Confidentiality Commitment, establishing confidentiality requirements for the exchange of PCF information.
Your existing onboarding FAQ also states that non-disclosure is governed at both company and individual-user level.
Mattermaps/Makersite maintains security and privacy controls designed to protect the confidentiality, integrity and accessibility of information.
Makersite's security information includes ISO 27001 and TISAX certification, along with its GDPR privacy and data-protection practices.
Makersite's TISAX assessment is listed as protection level AL 2 and was conducted by Bureau Veritas Certification Germany.
